Setting the Tone With Site Supervisors
In Edmondson’s study, team psychological safety was associated with learning behavior, and learning behavior mediated the relationship between psychological safety and performance (Edmonson, 1999).
Faculty can support psychological safety by communicating:
• Students are learners first, not employees
• Mistakes and uncertainty are expected parts of learning
• Questions should be welcomed
• Feedback should focus on growth and development
• Concerns should be raised early rather than allowed to escalate
