Faculty Actions

Before placements begin, faculty can explain to sites AND to students:

Communicate expectations for respectful supervision and teaching

Emphasize that the placement is a learning environment, not just a workforce environment

Encourage open communication between students and supervisors

Reinforce that students should feel safe asking questions and admitting uncertainty

Establish clear lines of communication with faculty if concerns arise

Clear expectations early can prevent many problems from escalating later.

Including students in this communication is important! They need to understand expectations to understand if incidences fall within those expectations or outside of those expectations.

Sample Script to Students:

“Before you start placement, I want you to know that if anything feels uncomfortable or confusing, you can contact me early. Small concerns are easier to address before they grow.”
